Homework Reminder

Students are given homework each day, Monday through Thursday. Occasionally, they may receive other paperwork that needs to be returned to school. While it is important for students to develop a sense of responsibility by bringing their work to and from school, it is also part of our responsibility to make sure they bring it back, as well. Please check your students' backpacks and folders for notes or homework that need to be returned to school. I have several students who are missing assignments, which can affect their performance in class. Thank you for your help with this.

Reading Month

March is Reading Month! There is an activity planned for each day during the month of March. The festivities will start with a celebration of Dr. Seuss' birthday on Monday, March 4. Students can wear a red, white, or Dr. Seuss shirt with their uniform pants. For a detailed schedule of daily activities, please refer to the calendar sent home with the March school newsletter.

Uniform Reminder

With our unpredictable Michigan weather, I wanted to give you some reminders about proper uniform.

  • All school shoes should be solid black or brown without heels.
  • Boots may be worn to school in inclement weather. Students must then change into their school shoes and wear them during the day in class.
  • Shirts must have a collar and be solid black, red or white polo or button down shirts. Turtle necks may be worn in cold weather, as well. No striped shirts
  • Any pair of pants that has belt loops must be worn with a belt.

Happy New Year

Happy New Year and welcome back! We had a very busy first week back and hit the ground running in 2013. I sent home students' learning plans on Friday. I will check with each student later this month regarding their Interest Topic choice. Please talk with your child about what they would like to learn about for their final Exhibition. Here's to a great rest of the school year!

Milestone 3 - Visuals

This Thursday, December 6, Milestone 3 – Visuals, are due. Students must bring their visual aid(s) to class. Examples: bring your completed tri-fold board or poster board; email your completed power point presentation to lastle@uprep.com or put it on a flash drive to bring to school; bring the book you wrote or model you created; etc.

Please make sure that the visual your student turns in is complete when they come to school (pictures already attached to the board; model completed; Powerpoint slides done).

If you have any questions, please let me know.

Harvest Festival

On Wednesday, October 31, we will celebrate our second annual Harvest Festival. Students are allowed to wear their costumes to school using the following guidelines:

·      No masks, monsters, or make-up: nothing scary or gross looking
·      No weapons of any sort
·      Skin must be covered: no short skirts, tank tops, see through clothing, etc. – costume must be appropriate for school. If there is a part of the costume that might be see through or short, wear something underneath it

The Harvest festivities will begin at 1:00 p.m. We will have a celebration in the classroom, and we will trick or treat around our school building, as well. If you would like to donate a bag of candy for trick or treating, you can bring it to the office by Wednesday, Oct. 31. If you would like to bring a treat for our classroom celebration, please supply enough nut free treats for 17 students.

Thank you!

Say Cheese!

Picture day is Wednesday, October 24. I sent order forms home with students earlier this week. All students will have their pictures taken, but you do not need to buy pictures. If you'd like to purchase pictures, please fill out the form and send it in with the money on Oct. 24. Students who buy pictures can dress down on picture day. All other students must wear their uniforms. If you need another order form, there are extras in the office.
