Harvest Festival

On Wednesday, October 31, we will celebrate our second annual Harvest Festival. Students are allowed to wear their costumes to school using the following guidelines:

·      No masks, monsters, or make-up: nothing scary or gross looking
·      No weapons of any sort
·      Skin must be covered: no short skirts, tank tops, see through clothing, etc. – costume must be appropriate for school. If there is a part of the costume that might be see through or short, wear something underneath it

The Harvest festivities will begin at 1:00 p.m. We will have a celebration in the classroom, and we will trick or treat around our school building, as well. If you would like to donate a bag of candy for trick or treating, you can bring it to the office by Wednesday, Oct. 31. If you would like to bring a treat for our classroom celebration, please supply enough nut free treats for 17 students.

Thank you!

Say Cheese!

Picture day is Wednesday, October 24. I sent order forms home with students earlier this week. All students will have their pictures taken, but you do not need to buy pictures. If you'd like to purchase pictures, please fill out the form and send it in with the money on Oct. 24. Students who buy pictures can dress down on picture day. All other students must wear their uniforms. If you need another order form, there are extras in the office.

Dress Down for a Cause

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and our school will help out by sponsoring a Dress Down for $1.00 day.  Friday, October 12 will be a dress down day to raise money for breast cancer. Students may wear school appropriate dress down clothes for $1.00. Please send the money with students. We hope you'll be able to help raise money for this important cause!

Count Day

Count Day is Wednesday, October 3. Please make sure your student attends school on this very important day.

Thank You!

Thank you so much to the Rahaman family, who donated miniature pumpkins to each of the students in our class. My students were very excited to get the tiny treats!

Thank you also to the families who have been able to donate items to our class. We are always grateful for extra supplies. With cold and flu season quickly approaching, we can always use tissue and Clorox cleaning wipes!

  • Shoes must be solid black or brown. Students can change into gym shoes for gym class, but they must wear their school shoes for every other part of the day
  • Pants with belt loops must be worn with a belt
  • Socks and stockings must also be solid colors - no stripes or designs
  • Sweaters may be worn in class, but they must be sweater material (no sweatshirts or jackets), be a solid red, black, or white (no designs, patches, emblems, etc.), and can't have a hood
  • Shirts must have a collar (no T-shirts)
Thank you for ensuring your student adheres to these guidelines.

First Week of School

Our first week of school was a big success! We spent our days learning about our new classroom, forming relationships with each other, and talking about what we look forward to as a Second Grader. Here are a few pictures from our first day.

I'm looking forward to a wonderful year!

Awards Ceremony

The Awards Ceremony will be Thursday, June 14. The 3rd Grade awards are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. This is an opportunity to recognize those students who have excelled academically and behaviorally this year. Please know that this means some students may not get an award.

We look forward to recognizing the excellence in our students this year. We hope to see you there!

It's time for our annual year end carnival! Please bring your family and join us this Friday, June 8, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Game and food tickets can be purchased at the front desk all this week.  If you are able to donate a baked good (store bought or homemade) for the Cake Walk, please bring them in Friday, June 8. Milestone 3 Due Thursday, May 17, 2012

Students must bring their visual aid(s) to class. Visuals should be of the cultural/historical figure they have been learning about.  Examples: bring completed tri-fold board or the pictures that will be put on their board. Bring the drive/cd with their completed power point presentation; bring the book they wrote or poster they created.

Since this the last presentation of the year, and the fifth presentation with me for most of my students, I have high expectations for these final Exhibitions!

Homework Reminder

The final quarter of the school year has begun! Please make sure you are continuing to check your student's backpack and folder for important notes, reminders, and homework. Homework is assigned Monday-Thursday, and occasionally Friday. There were several students with missing assignments at the end of the last quarter. Turning these assignments in daily is an important part of developing your student's responsibility. I have to check the work of 17 students each day, so please help me by making sure your student has completed this important work.

The 2nd and 3rd grade classes will be attending a field trip to the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum on Monday, May 7th.   For more information on the museum visit www.aahom.org . We’ll be leaving the building at 9:30 a.m. and returning at 2:00 p.m.   The cost per student and chaperones is $7 each.  If your child does not receive free lunch he/she will need to bring a disposable bag lunch from home.  Please no glass bottles or containers.  Each classroom is able to take 2 chaperones on the trip on a first come/first serve basis.

Please send in money by Friday, April 27th

*We have the two chaperones needed for our field trip - thank you to Ms. Harris and Ms. Cunningham for volunteering! Thank you also to our other parents who expressed an interest in going. We have one more chaperoning opportunity for a field trip in June. I will let you know when I have more details!

Field Trip

On Friday February 17th, students will go to Ann Arbor to see a live performance by the female singing group, “Sweet Honey In The Rock.” This dynamic group focuses on music that challenges, inspires, teaches, encourages, and empowers audiences from all walks of life to make a difference in their communities, while celebrating the music of centuries of African-American history and culture. For over three decades, their soulful voices and rich harmonies have entertained and inspired audiences all over the world.

Classroom Donations

Cold and flu season is in full swing! If you are able to donate, our class is greatly in need of tissue and Clorox wipes. These will help keep those pesky germs at bay!

You can also occasionally check the "Classroom Wishlist" sidebar to see what our class could currently use. Thank you for your help!

Pennies for Patients

During the month of January, our school will participate in a fundraiser that benefits St. Jude's Children's Hospital. St. Jude's treats children who are often critically ill and suffer from grave illnesses like cancer.

Students will raise money for this important organization by donating loose change to "Pennies for Patients." We will have a collection box in our classroom to collect change, and the class who raises the most money will get a pizza party. This fundraiser is a great opportunity for all of us to appreciate the healthy children in our lives, and for the students to learn a important lesson about compassion. We look forward to your participation!
